The second day of our vacation was spent driving through the black hills and arriving at this amazing place. It is really something you have to go visit in person to get a feeling of how awesome this work of art truly is. W-O-W.
After our viewing of Mount Rushmore, we drove to Hill City where we boarded the 1880 Train that took us through the mountains. It was a beautiful drive that lasted about an hour. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get off the train and explore the city on the other side. But the girls held up through the whole trip.
'Nica got to eat her picnic lunch on the train (on my lap)
because she took a quick nap while the rest of us ate before getting on board.
We were able to mostly sit together on the ride back to Hill City.
Miranda took some pictures of her sisters and Grandpa Wing and Grandma Jan.
This was our conductor who collected tickets. He was very friendly, and was happy to pose for a picture with Zoë and Grandpa.
We stopped in Boulder City, SD to get some supplies- food! Dinner was at Costco (ginormous pizza slices or jumbo hotdogs and enough soda to drown a frog).
'Nica nibbled at the hotdog, but was more interested in the soda.
I had to finally take it away from her.
Scrat accompanied them in watching the movie in which he starred.
