Working Out Moments

Cute: Daughters grabbing their little red chairs, towels and water bottles to exercise with me to Cindy Crawford's workout

Not Cute: accidentally kicking one of the daughters who chose to walk by me at an inauspicious moment of the downward swing of my leg (or hand with a weight in it).

Cute: Girls showing their gymnastic skills, and pushups (with straight arms and legs, perched on their hands and toes with their bums going up and down)

Not Cool: Screaming louder than the VERY loud music playing (to cover up the annoying commentary during the exercise video) over a chair they both want to use (the third chair among 2 girls).

Funny: Baby crawling over and sitting on my stomach as I do crunches.

FRUSTRATING: Interruption after interruption (Water? String Cheese? Crackers? Towel? Fight? Beaned on the head with a weight? Fighting and Screaming?) causing me to finally lose it and ditch the attempt to get a full 45 min workout and opt to leave off the last rep of abdominals, and who has time to stretch and "cool down"? (I didn't really want to do those last reps anyway).

If I had the money, I think I'd join a gym with babysitting...

Joining a gym with babysitting? Best thing I ever did. Totally worth it. Of course, I got the discounted employee rate, so . . . Those frustrating workouts don't work out any of my impatience with my small children. (Which is as important as working out my cardiovascular system.)

Thank you cheap YMCA!!! The kids love it, mom gets a workup and come out relaxed, and it is super inexpensive. I am a better mom when I get exercise -- I need that endorphin rush and I feel better about myself. The kids even know this. It I start to act really stressed or irritable, Carsten and Abrielle ask if I want to go to the Y to "burn off some steam?"

What a good example you setting to the girls, though. I think it's so important for kids to see their parents doing healthy things and taking care of themselves. They are learning that it's fun and important. Way to go....and just count the walk to the fridge for string cheese the cool down.

I agree with comments 1 and 2. Joining a gym with babysitting is SO worth every penny. But, it is also such a great example you are giving to them. My kids don't really know what I'm doing at the gym. Today my three year old even asked me "where did you go, mommy, while we were playing?" ;o)

And, on days when I can't get to the gym, I get up early (ugh) to exercise before they wake up.
