We have a new family history class at church. I have really loved attending! I've loved, even more, finding things out about my ancestors. Such as, I (re?)discovered a grand uncle I didn't know(remember?): Cyril George David, my dad's mom's brother. He was born in Washington, like my grandmother and dad. He only recently passed away, in 2004.
I remember researching my dad's line while my mom and I were in Wales in 1997. It was awesome to be able to look through census records, to see the headstone of a relative, to walk through a coal mine similar to the mines many of my relatives and ancestors worked for their whole lives.
I have a lot more work to do. I just have to wonder how much of that work is accessible from my home computer though the internet now. I wonder when I will get to go back to Wales and possibly find more records... if ever?
Just so you can "meet" my great-grandfather, I'm including a picture of his naturalization record that shows his signature, his writing about his two children, Cyril and Marguerite, and his wife, Mary. You can see that he came from Wales on a ship, the Mauritania, passing through Ellis Island in 1912. You can see that he lived in Pennsylvania, but home was Washington State.
Now, if I can find some pictures of him and his wife and daughter and son... that would be something!
