We were so busy celebrating, I didn't have time to post!
Travis asked to have a simple dinner on his birthday, so he could spend time with me. We had sandwiches and chips, a perfect match to the other request for his birthday: to watch the World Cup. Although he was disappointed it wasn't Germany playing, he and I were both rooting for good ol' España!
We also had some friends from Connecticut driving through to visit family that stopped and rested for a while. We haven't seen them in a couple of years, and it was great to catch up on their brief stop.
We then grabbed the cake and headed to the potluck with families that gather on Sunday afternoons. We were heralded with cheers and greetings as we walked up with dessert*. Apparently this week nobody had brought any treats! (It's been fun to see what we are abundant and lacking in these spontaneous potlucks.) Even better was the spontaneous singing to wish Travis Happy Birthday!
We sang again after we got the candles lit, no small feat with 37 of 'em in the gusts of wind.
It was a beautiful day- the perfect setting to celebrate the life of my Best Friend.
*I made a lemon cake with a lemon glaze that was yummy! (Another Cake Mix Doctor recipe). I did not decorate it except for powdered sugar and candles. Does that seem strange? I felt like the cake was naked! But, it still tasted great, and I think Travis was glad to have me around, not focusing on something that would disappear in bellies.

Happy Birthday, Travis!
Glad Spain won, but it would have been fun to see Ghana take the cup.
Love you--so grateful you came to live with us 37 years ago.
