Monster Aliens

For our New Member potluck (we have two every summer to welcome all the new families that move into our ward. Yeah, we have that much turn over! We lost 30 families, and we gained, so far, about 10) we made some cupcakes.

Nana was awesome to whip up two cake mixes, one the Snickerdoodle recipe (so yummy!) and another called "Darn Good Chocolate Cake" that has semi-sweet chocolate chips in the dark chocolate cake. Mmmmm.

But, the cool part about these cupcakes (one full size and one mini sitting on top) is that the girls could frost them by themselves! Even Miranda was able to make her own little monster. Just three bags full of frosting and plain round tips attached, closed with rubber bands so they coudl squeeze tightly and dribble frosting all over these cute monsters. Shove in the suckers, glue on the chocolate chip with frosting, and add whatever else (using fondant, frosting, extra suckers) to create your own monster alien.

Nana was super helpful. In addition to making all the cupcakes, and cleaning everything up, Nana also unwrapped all the suckers. We bought mini chocolate chips for the pupils. I had left-over fondant (thanks Aunt Becky!) to make tongues, nose, etc. We should've added fondant feet! Next time. Because I definitely want to make these again!

Oh, and yes, this idea came from the books Aunt Becky sent us. (Thanks again, Becky!)

They were a hit with both the adults and the kids at the potluck. Although, I must be getting something of a reputation because one of the ladies said, "You made the cupcakes, didn't you!" I just have to wonder how many kids just licked all the frosting and left the cake...
