WWJD?

If you were a woman, and you came upon a serious and brutal fight between two women, what would you do? This is what one neighbor of mine did.*

As a youth counselor for Young Women in our church, I often admonished (yes, that is really the word I would use!) them that they need to decide before the situation is upon them what they would do. Make the choice now, so that IF you are ever faced with the dilemma later, you don't have to wonder or worry.

So, What Would Jesus Do? or What Would-Ja Do, as a women by herself?

I'd like to think I'd be brave enough to step in and stop the fight. Or that I'd be clever enough to tell a little white lie to the police so they would send out somebody right away. I hope that I am made of better stuff than to just drive on, and ignore that I even saw what was happening. I know I wouldn't be standing around watching, filming it on my cell phone, or standing a few yards away as a bystander. No, I'm making a decision now to do something- step in or get some help immediately. Even if I had to lie to the police dispatcher about the presence of a weapon. Fists and feet can kill as weapons...

*The lady who wrote the essay linked above notified me in an email:
Incidentally, not long after I witnessed that fight, five teen boys, at least one of which lived on that street, were arrested for abducting, beating, and robbing two Holy Cross students.

In hind sight, I have a myriad of other choices I wish I had made, but mostly I wish I had gone back, driven into the circle with my windows up, and just laid on the horn until they stopped, or someone else stepped in to stop it.
