Mo Willems came to South Bend. Our county library has this big to-do in September with guests including book characters, famous authors, not-so-famous authors, crafts, and free books being given away.
We had the opportunity to hear Mo Willems read aloud Knufflebunny and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, and a few other of his wonderfully hilarious books .
He is an excellent entertainer (just click on his name above to see him in action). He was able to get children of all ages involved in the story, asking questions, and he even taught them how to draw Pigeon. If Travis had been there I'd have sent him off with the kids and waited in line for his autograph (which would've been hours). As it is, I will just show you Zoë's and Megan's artwork that Willems talked them through, and you can look up his books at your local library.
Zoë's Pigeon:

Mo Willem's Pigeon Page has some fun and interesting things. If you want to hear more of his voice as The Pigeon, check out the hot dog dress-up page. There are some other videos, games, etc. Have fun!

Speaking of authors who read their books amazingly well, another recommendation is a series by Judy Schachner: Skippyjon Jones. These books about this little siamese cat who thinks he's a chihuahua are great. I heard the author read "Skippyjon Jones in the Doghouse" and I laughed my head off!
Go, read, and enjoy!

I'm sorry I missed Mo in town. We have enjoyed all of his books at home. Abby and Patrick both love Skippy Jon Jones as well. Sounds like fun times.
