Cross Country, Day 6 (Tuesday)

We slept pretty hard, and I let the girls sleep as long as I could. We ate waffles and OJ for breakfast at the hotel, and then jumped in the van, got gas, and drove around the corner to Mormon Island.

Before getting on the road again, we went to this lake just through the trees from our hotel. I know little about this Mormon Island, but I heard it was a gathering place for the Saints as the trekked West.

Megan, Miranda, Zoë and Nica (who was not interested in having her picture taken)

We barrelled on through Nebraska, listening to music and watching movies. In Wyoming we stopped for dinner at a BK, eating in the van as we crossed into Utah and hit a wall of rain. I probably should have pulled over to take some gorgeous pictures of the varied shadows and lights, but instead we were anxious to get to the Leighs (or at least I was).

We pulled in a few minutes after six in the evening. We were so glad to have reached our destination! The Leighs were excited to see us, too!

Alysa and Zoë (Aleta in the background) were super happy to see each other. It was also uncanny how much Zoë had caught up to her big cousin!

Height Match!
Aleta had set up each girl with a cot, sleeping bag, and goody bucket with a first aid kit, some candy and a finger puppet. Such a sweet welcoming gift!

It was Aleta's Birthday! We had birthday cake together, after she blew out her candles. And I gave Aleta a knock-off brand of a CamelBack- she loved it! (and it came in handy, too!)

Happy Birthday, Aleta!! Thanks for letting us come crash your birthday party. :)
