We had the Nelsons and the Masons (blonds, not red-heads) over. It was quite a crowd, but lots of fun (and not too much chaos). We had a dinner of ham, sautéed asparagus, whole wheat rolls (Ben's that were YUMMY!), apples and grapes, spinach-feta-tomato salad, mashed potatoes, potato salad (I boiled too many potatoes, oops!).
Following dinner I did a lesson with the Resurrection Eggs to talk about Christ's death and ressurection; I was impressed with how much the kids knew and understood about Christ and these last days of his mortal life. While I was with the 10 little kids, the parents were outside hiding eggs. We split the younger kids (4 and under: Chloe, Miranda, Ephraim, Bennett, Veronica) from the older kids (Emma, Zoë, Niah, Esther, Megan) so that the "hidden" eggs were more age-appropriate.
It was hilarious to see 'Nica stand there watching all the kids scooping up egg. but 'Nica still didn't seem to "get" the idea of collecting eggs.

Zoë

It only took the kids a matter of seconds to find all their allotted eggs. I said there were enough for each child to have between 10-12 eggs. A couple of the older girls stopped looking for them as soon as they their allotment, but Zoë was still out there scouring the bushes and ground-cover to help those who didn't have enough. We even invited a neighbor boy to come over and search, and let him enjoy the fruits of his labor. Megan found 13, Zoë found 14 as after everybody had found all their allotted eggs I let it be a free-for-all; even the neighbor kid found 9 eggs! The candy was just jelly beans, Starburst, some bubbles, and malt eggs. I think they all had fun- if nothing else they dug quickly into their candy and enjoyed that!
Ben made fresh strawberry shortcake for dessert (scratch shortcake, real whipping cream, fresh strawberries). It was REALLY yummy. The time went SO FAST it was 7 before I even had a moment to think! We were still able to get things cleaned up and picked up before everybody left. I was surprised that there was little to be done- but I left it for morning (aside from putting away the last of the food, and running the dishwasher, anyway).
