Grandpa Welling

H. Neil Welling is a man I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to know. He was unobtrusive, but intelligent. He was a pillar to his family, a wonderful companion to his wife, and an incredible father to some amazing daughters.

While at Max and Gwen's wedding dinner, I was able to sit at the table with Grandpa. He didn't say much of anything, but had a quick and ready smile for everyone, and hugs for those who came over. All this despite the fact I could see he was very uncomfortable, and probably not in a little pain.

I was talking to one of Grandpa's daughters about how Travis and I are to soon have a fourth daughter join our family. She got a twinkle in her eye and said, "Yes, it does take a special kind of man to raise only girls."

I will miss Grandpa so much! I am so grateful for all his love, for all his quiet support and teaching. My heart is full of gratitude that he (and his wife) raised such amazing daughters- so that I could have such an incredible husband.

When we were in town in June 2003, Grandpa met Zoë
