One of the hardest things about living in South Bend is the winter weather (don't get me started!). The next hardest thing is something that's true to matter where we lived- Texas or Indiana- and that's being far away from family, or leaving friends behind.
The best consolation is the fact that we now have the internet, but not just that, we also have digital pictures, blogs, web sites, e-mail, Skype, etc.
I started a web page at the insistence of my Twin shortly after Zoë was born. I have kept it up (mostly) for all three girls, and enjoyed sharing my experiences with my beautiful daughters with family and friends regardless of distance in miles. Cyberspace shrinks distances.
I also discovered that I can reacquaint myself with old friends- from high school, college, PA school, and old wards. Even current friends I can keep in touch with through blogs and through Facebook (a highly addictive interface, I must add).
I am so grateful that, despite distances, I can talk and SEE my family, and share my life with them through photos, videos, and video conferences. For those in my family who aren't caught up to technological speed, please get there!
**************
I was trying to find some videos to place on Zoë's new MP4 player (it will play songs and videos, FM radio, record voice/radio, etc.) I came across an old movie I made. Ironically, the very people who are in the movie "found" my Facebook page, and now I've had the wonderful chance to catch up with a dear friend.
Another thought- I find it so hard to believe that time moves on without me. Mis sobrinos (neices and nephews) or friend's children are frozen in time from the moment we leave each other's company, and when I see or hear them talked about later, I find it so hard to fit them into my mental image of them. Again, I am all the more grateful for pics and videos to help me "watch" them grow up.
Apparently, YouTube disabled the soundtrack for copyright reasons. Sorry. Personally, I don't know why they won't let it be part; it isn't as if I'm trying to sell something! This is a PERSONAL USE and PRIVATE video. Harrumph. Don't get me started on the whole pirating thing- that's another blog post entirely.

It won't work for me. What am I doing wrong?
So true. I love the internet for keeping in touch with family and friends. I love watching kids grow on blogs. I just got on Facebook last week as a suggestion from an old mission comp, and have reconnected with lots of old companions. I just searched for you and added you as friend.
