I do believe that as I get older, Birthdays are both less and more important. Less important what I receive or how old I am, and more important as to who celebrates it with me.
Travis was awesome and helped Zoë and Megan make me a birthday cake- from scratch. Yes, they pulled out eggs, flour, sugar, and buttermilk and made a super-yummy cake. And, I'm not much of one for cake, but this was deeeelish! They also made the frosting from scratch (a cream cheese frosting that was perfect with the sweet cake). The girls picked the colors (Zoë chose green and Megan chose purple) and helped frost the cake. They even went shopping with dad and got some presents (Zoë picked out some pretty jewelry, and Megan got me some dark chocolate, and Miranda got me a CD).
We had cake and presents after we went out for dinner at a Japanese restaurant. Not the best place, but good for our little family where I am the only one who likes sushi. Megan surprised me the most by not only using chopsticks, but also trying the sushi. Zoë liked the noodle soup and the fried tempura chicken. There was a lot of food, and we had a lot of fun. There was nothing better I could wish for on my birthday: a loving family, lots of thoughtful cards, calls and gifts from my immediate and extended family and friends.
So, yes, birthdays as an "aging" mom are both less and more.

I am totally embarrassed that I forgot to send your birthday card and forgot to call you on your birthday. I had it all planned a week before your birthday and then I have no idea what happened. Argh!! Please forgive me. My brain is on empty I guess. Now, I will get your card and sheepishly get it in the mail.
That is a REALLY cute picture of you and Zoe at the restaurant. I can't believe how grown up she's starting to look.
So sad they grow so quickly, and yet at times I wish they grew faster!
