Baby Language

OK, I really should be getting in the shower and getting my grocery list together, but as I stand here at the computer (yes, stand- it gives me the false sense that I'm really here for just one short moment instead of the 45 min I've actually been here), I hear Miranda cry/screaming.

"Megan, get off her!" I say without even turning my head to look at them. When I do, I see that the big sister has the infant in a half-nelson (I think that's what it's called). Megan doesn't want her baby sister getting into her shoe box. (I have baskets next to the door for each kid to put their shoes in when they walk in the door, and Miranda loves to take things out and put things back).

Yes, Miranda has a "Megan alert!". Or rather, a "I'm STUCK, come help me NOW!" alert. It's funny because when she is released from her trap, she's now crawling toward me and saying "Ma-ma-ma-ma".

Yes, she's talking. Her vocabulary also extends to "Moooieee" for "more" and "Haaaai!" for "Hi!" and "Bup-bup-bup-bup" for "Up" and "Thdatd" for "Dad". She just makes an excited noise when she sees her big sisters (after a break from them, anyway). Oh, and she also has a little excited noise for when she hears or sees a dog. She loves dogs!

So, my ten-month-old has broken all records on the verbal front, something I thought would be impossible with her rather verbally-precocious older sisters, and she's got a five-word vocab. Zoë knew "look" "mom" and "dad" and a few more by her first birthday. I can't remember what Megan's were. I wonder what vocabulary Miranda will have by then.

Now, if only she'd pick up on motor skills and walk...

All your post have been so fun.. Blackberries.( yum!) and I'm still smiling over the fact that with a simple scream you can tell who and what is going on.. that's a mom super power! right there! love it!
