As I stand here in my long pajamas that I put on this morning when the air cooled off (it was probably 80 degrees in our rooms most of last night), and look at the time (nearly noon) and the fact that the girls are eating lunch, I reflect on the fact that the day is half gone, and I haven't accomplished "much".
No, it isn't because I'm at the computer reading about how Hilliary Clinton barely defeated Barak Obama in our Democratic Primary that I voted in last night (yes, I actually voted the Democratic ticket, although I'd be hard pressed to say I'm a "democrat"), and reading about becoming a "creature of new habits", and answering some emails (a couple of surveys for Zoës preschool, a notice from my ISP that I need to update my POP and STMP so my emails are "secure", sending Buffy some recipes she needed cuz she packed away her books already). No, it's because I slept in and mowed the lawn. How can that possibly take three hours?
Well, with three little ones, an impending rain shower, and cool air, somehow these things contrived to keep me in my pajamas, with dust on my hands and twigs in my hair, until the unseemly hour of noon when I will hopefully get a shower- although that might be further postponed until the kids are down for a nap.
Part of me thinks, why bother? I'm ahead of the game in already being set to go to bed this evening because I have my pajamas on (and I only put them on this morning)! I also remember looking at other mothers with more than 2 kids and thinking 'What do you mean you didn't get a shower until noon!? Can't you find even those few minutes?' Well, here I am, doing just that- putting it off because there are so many things to be got done!
Maybe we should take up a more European philosophy and only shower once a week. Yet, I don't much care for grocery shopping every day, either. Once a week is too much as it is!
Well, maybe I should grab that shower, or at least get some indoor work done- like cleaning up the crayons and playdough that the girls managed to track from the dining room to the living room while I was outside mowing the lawn with the baby in my "Moby wrap" because she was cold and wanted a nap but I just had to finish the lawn before it started to rain. I guess I need to start making a list of the things I do accomplish (make and clean up breakfast, make and clean up lunch, got the girls dressed, mowed the lawn, nursed the baby and changed her diaper- a couple of times, and convinced my "half-and-two" year old that she really did need to go potty and put on underwear).
No time- and yet I did stop and admire my irises (deep purple, my favorite), smell them and the lilacs, and I was able to enjoy the cool breeze, snuggling with my baby, hugging my daughters and laughing at the cute things they designed in the playdough, and admire their coloring pages. I guess it's all a matter of perspective.
Oh, and Zoë was the photographer of the pictures below:
Zoë's playdough design.
Zoë took these pictures of Miranda while she was in her swing. Miranda is quite expressive with her face, and her voice is quickly finding its place as well.

Now that is a good day! You did get a lot done and your girls love you. What more could you want! I'm impressed you got the lawn mowed. Way to go!
AND at least you got the girls dressed. There was a time when some days I went to bed in clothes and then wore them the next day. Those were my "really good" days - haha! However, I have no excuse now as C & E now dress themselves and sleep through the night :)
Yes! I have that to look forward to? A real excuse for NOT changing my clothes or taking a shower...my skin cries out hallelujah!
