July 2005 15th to 18th- Zoë ends up in the hospital with a skull fracture. We eat McDonalds for our anniversary dinner (and if you know anything about me, you know that I absolutely loathe McDonald's food).
July 2009 16th to 17th- I end up on the couch with back pain so severe, it makes me cry to even sit up. It didn't help that this happened on our anniversary, so I cried even more that all our plans to go out and have a fun date were completely ruined.
July 2010 14th- After working hard all morning at the garden, and the girls playing so well together and only peripherally supervised, enduring 90-degree weather, I took the four girls and myself off to a friend's pool to swim (they are SO AWESOME to let us come over!) We ate our picnic lunch, changed into suits, lathered up with lotion, and jumped into the pool. Ahhh, it was bliss! Then our friends noticed we were there and came out to swim with us, to the pure and utter delight of my daughters. They find Mom to be a bit of a stick-in-the-mud because I'm "watching" them, and not playing with them. While my back was turned, Megan decided to jump, again, into the pool. No problem- she'd been jumping to the shallow end without any problems at all, and having a blast, and getting wet, and was close to swimming far enough to make it across the short end of the pool, even. So, when I heard a SCREAM followed by that heart-stopping "I'm in pain" crying, I knew something was wrong. I got over to her, pulled her out of the water, and saw blood. It took me a minute to figure out that it was coming from under her chin.
From a cut an inch long and about a half-inch deep. I knew it was going to need stitches.
Our friends were so great! She even offered to watch the other girls while I took Megan to the doctor, but they were supposed to be leaving for Indianapolis to visit her son in just a few minutes! I called Travis and had him meet me at the doctor's office.
Megan was a champ! She cried the first half, especially during the lidocaine injections. But, she finally got exhausted enough she just was calm and letting our pediatrician (Oh, I love him! He's so awesome!) put in FOUR sutures. One for each year, right?
She pulled one of the stitches out this morning, playing. I don't know how. Hopefully no more will pop out- I think we'll be ok unless she loses another one.
So, maybe next year in the middle of July we'll just lock ourselves in our house.... and get electrocuted (as Travis joked this morning). But I don't think that is all that funny.
I'm posting pictures of Megan's lesion, so if you're squeamish, you won't want to look...

You forgot to mention that your wedding day was the hottest day of that summer. Dangerous heat. It was a bad omen.
Ouch ouch! Poor girl1
Oooooo, so sorry, Megan. Looks like a good stitching job. Brave girl.
Oh! The poor girl. That looks so bad! (Almost like another mouth on her chin...) How nice that the scar will be tucked away under her chin, however. Claire has a tiny one in the same area - but not even CLOSE to the size of Megan's split! What a trooper Megan is! (I'm laughing that she is wearing her bathing suit under the hospital robe). Megan is so pretty!
Buffy's comment was hilarious. That was a hot day on your wedding. I remember.
Hooray, Megan! Now we have matching scars. Yours was from the swimming pool, mine was from ice. I can't wait to compare the next time I see you!
That's a good split! She would fit right in with my athletes! Now she has a battle scar she can show everyone! I agree with Sarah, she looks adorable in her suit and gown! Hugs to Megan!
