The Good:
We spent the day at the beach in Michigan. Lots of sun, cold Lake Michigan water, sand enough for Veronica to face plant, and the older girls to dig three pits and create tunnels between, swimming, picnic lunches, and a sunburn for Mom (despite SPF-50). We came home very happy but all very tired; Veronica and Miranda falling asleep on the drive.
The Bad:
The floor looked funny when I walked in the door. Like somebody had rubbed dirt into all the scuff marks. I walked up the stairs to drop off something, and that's when I realized what had happened:
The upstairs toilet flooded.
The upstairs toilet flooded the upstairs bathroom,
the hallway rug
the entryway ceiling & rug
the shoe boxes by the front door
down the drain
down to the basement
all over my food storage
Two bags of 50lbs wheat soaked through. Boxes, bags and cans covered with water. The floor has a nice river of water going to the floor drain, and I can still hear the "drip-drip-drip" of water leaking down.
The Ugly:
My mood for the next two-and-a-half hours as my mom and I toweled off as much as we could, threw away food, took bags out of soaked cardboard, wiped up and mopped floors, and tried to dry out the carpet and pad in the upstairs hallway.
I intended to clean out the basement with my mom's help while she was here. I didn't want to do it after a trip to the beach. I didn't want to do it with toilet water, either.

OH!!! I am so sorry! That really did put a damper on your day! I am just glad that your mom was there to help you out! Miss you guys!
NOOOOOOO!! Oh, Nadine! I wish I was still there to swoop in and help clean while we let your mom play with the girls. :(
Oh, I am so, so sorry!
Oh dear that's awful! Were you able to get everything dried out!? It took us 4 days of non stop fans & dehumidifiers to get everything dry here. I'm sorry that happened to you!
oh that STINKS!! I can't believe it went all the way down to the basement!!! And on your food storage too?! you poor thing! I hope you have recovered.. Now who was the one that made the toilet overflow?
How HORRIBLE!!!! It's a good thing that you usually have soooo much free time on your hands to enable you to devote 100% of your attention to clean-up duty ;) . I wish that I could've been there to help.
